Downside Up is dark/Burtonesque/fairy tale/cabaret/musical/puppet show written by Emma Dean and Jacob Diefenbach that will be hitting intensive pre-production around the end of this year.
I’m on the pre-visualisation team and here’s the first peak -
I recommend checking out the songs on the myspace. It’s a trez exciting project.

I was recently asked to create a foyer piece for a collection of one act plays. Upon learning that all the plays were quite downers I thought I’d better make something that was a little more somber than my usual stuff. I had great fun with the mythological imagery, Artemis and the little frame. I really enjoy drawing something when I have something to say. …of course I’m also good at coming across preachy and pretentious. eek. It’s called Disconnected Means Broken and it references a lot of BC Artemis worship and how similar practices today can lead to a more literal kind of broken heart. (I said pretentious and preachy didn’t I?)

“Hey! No, You Look Good” is the tiniest bit autobiographical – although I’m not blonde. And more in sentiment than the actual instance.
“A Deep Red” is based on two good friends of mine. I nailed it pretty good if I do say so myself, even down to Bulmer closing her eyes after a bit much red heheh. This was one of three that seemed to make up the universal favourites of the collection (the other two being Foreign Towers and Excited In The Snow). I think I agree. …I *think*.

More pieces from “In Pairs“. The first, Foreign Towers was inspired by Berlin (with a dash of Rothenburg thrown in for a good silhouette). And the second needs no explanation if you’re familiar with summer here in Brisbane; it’s called How To Hold Hands at 39° (that’s Celsius). I think Foreign Towers may be my number one of the whole collection… but I’m likely to change my mind.
Mr Maps played to packed seating banks for their album launch at the Roundhouse and the Verve got nicely cramped for the opening night of In Pairs (well, the bar did anyways heh). It’ll be up for the next month. So check it out if you like what you see. ^_^
A couple of the pics from the exhibition are after the jump.

February is the month of the goings on! We’ve got Mr Maps’ album launch on the 7th at the Roundhouse (I’m sure everyone has bought tickets) and then shortly after on the 16th I launch my new exhibition – “In Pairs”. It’s a collection of new drawings celebrating insignificant moments. It’s at the Verve, which is always a great venue.
All the info is on the event page here. Feel free to invite yourself.

So next Saturday is the Mr. Maps Launch, which has been a long time in preparation and equally exciting and nerve-wracking. We are playing in a really cool space called the Roundhouse Theatre, which is, as the name suggests, “in-the-round”. An amazing electronic guru from Melbourne called Qua will supporting us, and also Brisbane peeps Re:Enactment and chalkandcheese. So if any of our readers are here in Brisbane, please come along!
The release itself will be available as physical mail-order, and as mp3s from iTunes, eMusic, and all the others stores that have a lower-case vowel followed by a capital consonant at the start of their names.
Gave the page a quick touch up to ensure it’s ready for the new year. With Chris’ imminent album launch (via Mr Maps) and half a dozen projects in production, 2009 is looking exciting. Enjoy your holidays!
We’re putting “3x Super Robot Heartbreak” to bed. It’s a great little film that Chris and I have been oh-so-much proud of. We’ve been really humbled by the exposure and lovely responses we’ve gotten over the past 18 months, but alas, its legs are tired and it’s time for bed – but not before one last huzzah: our homeland’s animation fest of BIAF. It’s the 28 – 30 Oct and you’ll find 3xSRH wedged in there somewhere in all its 1min 57sec glory. Goodnight little fellow. You’ve done us proud <sniff>
